Did you know that you may be more likely to have cavities as you age? This is mostly because your teeth become more vulnerable to decay with age. There are many things you can do to keep your teeth healthy, but would you be surprised to learn that you should help your little one protect their teeth as soon as they’re born? This is extremely important because your child’s teeth are also very susceptible to tooth decay.
Sadly, infants are actually very susceptible to tooth decay, especially if you give them bottles full of sugary drinks when they go to sleep. You see, if your children’s teeth are exposed to sugary drinks, they’ll be more vulnerable to tooth decay. If your child needs a bottle to sleep, you could give them a bottle full of water.
There are other things you could consider doing to protect your child’s teeth. For instance, you should avoid sharing utensils. This is because bacteria can be transferred from parent to child and accelerate decay. And please remember to brush your child’s teeth, or wipe their gums if their teeth haven’t come in.
Finally, please remember to visit our team once every six months after your child’s first tooth erupts. Our dentist, Dr. Faith Cousins, is trained to recognize the signs of tooth decay and other issues, and can help you address potential issues before they become serious.
Would you like to learn more about the care you can receive from our team, please don’t hesitate to contact Faith Cousins DDS at 301-589-2714. We’ll be happy to examine your child’s smile and offer you advice on keeping your child’s teeth healthy and strong. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
