Did you know that you can lose teeth as you age? Have you heard that you should expect your teeth to weaken as you get older? Luckily, there are a number of things you can try, to keep your pearly whites strong as you age—and a few things that might weaken or damage your teeth.
Sadly, you may have daily habits that can actually weaken your pearly whites. Some of these habits include biting on ice, pens, pencils, and even on your nails. Aside from fracturing or cracking your teeth, these habits may eventually break down the protective layer of your teeth, also known as your enamel. If this happens, you could ultimately have to cope with decay and gum disease.
Similarly, did you know that tooth decay could wear down your enamel? You should try to prevent decay by brushing and flossing your teeth and gums, but did you know that a dental condition known as dry mouth can lead to similar problems? If you are suffering from dry mouth, your mouth won’t be able to produce as much saliva as your mouth needs, which will make you more vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease. If you feel thirsty constantly, we recommend setting up an appointment with us.
